EDDIE'S CHRISTMAS CABARET REVIEW
(thanks Ashleigh)

So I went to Eddie Izzard's X-mas cabaret which was recorded for BBC Radio 2 ... which was really cool! The venue (Ronnie Scotts Jazz Club) was really small, nice and intimate.

Although Eddie wasn't on best form (not that many things that took me past a chuckle) in all fairness he was just a sort of presenter/compare. However he did look particularly tasty: still bloke and beardy, in Jeans, stripy shirt and blue Jacket. He talked to a lot of the other acts. Noticeable parts of his were getting everyone to blow up balloons and letting them go all at once (good radio trick, he added), about having his rout canal done this morning and whether that was a good idea before a show, talking to one of the other stand-up acts who knew him from childhood and the fact that he cheated at "Escape from Coldiz" the board game, then moving on to other boring board games finally coming across Boggle which Eddie said he can't play due to his dyslexia (which I TOTALLY understood) and the fact he hadn't bought his Xmas presents yet and had to rush out to Ham lies after, in order to buy presents for kids he knew (possibly his brother's kids?).

The other acts were great... Ed Byrne's standup in particular was brilliant and Corrine Baylie-Rae has a wonderful singing voice... not to mention was very pretty.

Highlight of my evening though.... I ACTUALLY TALKED TO HIM!!!!!! (and surprisingly enough managed to keep cool too.) See just at the beginning of the show I went down to the Toilets. The toilets were right near the dressing room and I thought on the way in that I saw the back of him through the open door (the ginger hair and blue suit was a dead giveaway!) However I didn't want to hassle him too much so I didn't walk back to oogle at him but decided when I walked out I would try and casually get a better look. It just-so-happened he wasn't in the dressing room (was a little disappointed)... however then, when I walked up the stairs he was there talking on his mobile!!!!! I got really excited but decided not to interrupt him. However just as I was walking up the stairs he finished the conversation and started heading back down. I just had to say something.... below is as accurate a transcript of what I remember in my dizzily excited mind (makes me forget things generally)....

Me: Hello.
Eddie: Hello.
Me: Can I just say; I'm a huge fan.
Eddie: Thanks.
Me: How's filming in New York going? (he's currently/was just filming for Super-Ex)
Eddie: Good. What’s your name?
Me: Ashleigh
Eddie: (reaches out a hand. We shake hands) Nice to meet you.
Me: You too. Sorry my hands wet because I've just been to the toilet.... (smiling) I did wash it so don't worry. (Eddie wipes his hand on his jeans, making a mock-disgusted face. He then begins to walk off and I call after him...) I've got tickets to the Bexhill gig so I'll see you then.(Eddie makes some sign of acknowledgment and walks off)

I was so damn excited and I was supremely impressed with myself for staying so cool... It was also very surreal how normal-ish the exchange was. It really thrilling!!! Unfortunately I didn't get his autograph (no paper with me at the time), or a photo (again... no camera as bag was taken at the door) or hug... hopefully will get all of those at the Bexhill gig!
