Comedian Eddie Izzard commemorates D-Day Landings anniversary with Normandy veterans

[from the Saffron Walden Reporter]

COMEDIAN Eddie Izzard attended the last great gathering of Normandy veterans on the 65th anniversary of the D-Day Landings.

Imperial War Museum Duxford hosted the reunion of the Normandy Veterans Association on Sunday.

More than 1000 veterans and guests attended the poignant and historic day including honorary member of the Association, Eddie Izzard.

The Normandy Veterans Association was formed in 1981 to encourage the 1944 spirit of comradeship irrespective of rank or social position and to promote contact between former comrades.

There was an exciting flying display by The Blades, comprised of pilots who were formerly with The Red Arrows, flying the ultimate in high-performance piston aircraft.

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight performed a flypast by a Supermarine Spitfire and Hawker Hurricane.

Honorary General Secretary to The Normandy Veterans Association, Peter Hodge, said: “Nostalgia of previous events at Duxford ensured this to be the preferred location for the last en-masse gathering of veterans who have contributed to The Normandy Veterans Association, the most extensive and successful veteran association in the world.

DOWNLOAD THE iPHONE/iTOUCH APP HERE

[from Reuters]

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – British director Sally Potter’s new film, “Rage,” will premiere on mobile phones when Babelgum offers one episode from the film per day for seven days via its free mobile application for iPhone and iPod devices, beginning on September 21.

The episodic mobile release will be available in the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy, France, Germany and Spain.

Written and directed by Potter, “Rage” tells the behind-the-scenes story of a New York fashion show through a series of interviews, as if shot by a schoolboy on his mobile phone over a seven-day period. The film, which features Simon Abkarian, Steve Buscemi, Lily Cole, Judi Dench, Eddie Izzard, Jude Law, John Leguizamo and Dianne Wiest, premiered at the 2009 Berlin Film Festival.

The mobile premiere will kick off a multiplatform, multiterritory release that includes the U.S. DVD release on September 22 through Liberation Entertainment; an interactive satellite premiere in the U.K. on September 24; the online release via Babelgum beginning September 28; and the Adventure Pictures DVD release in the U.K. and Ireland on September 28.

The red carpet event and Q&A after the September 24 premiere at London’s BFI/Southbank will be broadcast online commercial-free on Justin.tv.
