Eddie Izzard Returns To EPIX

EPIX, the premium entertainment channel, video-on-demand and online service, brings Eddie Izzard back to the comedy stage with the broadcast premiere of his latest one-man show. Eddie Izzard: Live at Madison Square Garden premieres on EPIX January 15, 2011 at 8:00 pm ET and will also be available at EPIX-on-demand and EpixHD.com.

“We are proud that Eddie Izzard is returning to EPIX”

Eddie Izzard: Live at Madison Square Garden, directed by Sarah Townsend, features the critically acclaimed comedian’s trademark absurdist humor as he takes on the history of the world. “It’s about everything that has ever happened … with a few gaps,” according to Izzard. As he runs marathons for charity and considers a run for office, the performer continues to win acclaim for his considerable writing, acting and producing credits, including The Riches, Oceans 13 and David Mamet’s Race on Broadway. Izzard was also the subject of the Emmy nominated documentary BELIEVE: The Eddie Izzard Story, written, produced and directed by Sarah Townsend, which premiered on EPIX in 2010.

“We are proud that Eddie Izzard is returning to EPIX,” said EPIX President and CEO Mark Greenberg. “Eddie’s unique take on the world demonstrates why he is such an outstanding voice in comedy today and so popular with our television and online audiences.”

Part of an A-list roster of comedy entertainers on EPIX that includes Lewis Black, David Cross, Janeane Garofalo and Louis C.K., Izzard was among the first comedians to commit to EPIX upon its launch in 2009 with the premiere of Eddie Izzard: Live from Wembley and BELIEVE: The Eddie Izzard Story, earning the recently launched service its first Emmy nomination.

Thankfully for Eddie Izzard, those days are long gone and the wonders of modern technology means he can play his pirate role with both legs firmly on the ground.

However, the stand-up comedian and actor will still have to perfect some sort of hobble as he takes on the role of Long John Silver.
Izzard, 48, will play Robert Louis Stevenson’s villainous swashbuckler for Sky1 HD’s adaptation of Treasure Island.

And judging by these pictures, he has thrown himself into his role by shaving off his head and having a fake tattoo drawn on the side of his face.

Eddie Izzard hits out at Cameron

[from shortlist.com]

Whether he’s babbling brilliantly to sold-out arenas or hobbling to the finish line after 43 marathons in 51 days, Eddie Izzard normally has a (sporadically lipstick-smeared) smile on his face. But, as ShortList found out, mentioning politics will get him fired up in no time…
