IFC To Debut Monty Python Documentary
in October
(with Eddie)
Nobody expects the Spanish inquisition, but independent film channel IFC expects
to bring viewers the definitive documentary of the Monty Python comedy troupe
next October to coincide with the group's 40th anniversary.
IFC is teaming with Eagle Rock Entertainment on Monty Python: Almost the Truth
(The Lawyer's Cut) in a six-part series that will air Oct. 4-10 in a Python
Week stunt that will also include airings of classic films The Holy Grail,
The Life of Brian and the performance film, Monty Python
Live at the Hollywood Bowl.
According to IFC, the series will include interviews with all the surviving members
plus a representative of Graham Chapman.
Also weighing in will be everybody from Lorne Michaels, Jimmy Fallon and Hugh
Hefner, to Eddie Izzard, Olivia Harrison and Seth Green.
Campaign saves the day for war veterans
Please be advised that the final boost to the Overlord Appeal
has assured an astonishing climax.
It is with profound admiration and gratitude that the remaining sum required
to send more than 600 members of the Normandy Veterans Association to Normandy
in June 2009 has now been raised, culminating in an amazing contribution by readers
of the Western Daily Press.
On Friday, March 20, with scarce 10 weeks to go before the mass pilgrimage,
the National Lottery announced that they would fund both veterans and carers.
In this regard, I have refused the National Lottery to take any credit whatsoever
for funding the veterans on our Overlord list.
The only reason why our veterans are able to attend the final commemorations
has been through the magnificent and humbling demonstration of support by the
British people.
Funding from the National Lottery for all carers will be welcomed.
For more than 200 veterans, who previously did not perceive it within their
means to attend Normandy, it is, with serious dismay, most unlikely at this late
stage for it to be logistically practical to organise transport, ferry crossings,
medical supervision and accommodations in France.
For them, we fear the offer may be too late. In short, the issue is a travesty
and the lateness of the offer can be viewed only as token.
On behalf of more than 600 extremely grateful veterans, my partner in the endeavour,
London businessman Trevor Beattie (a champion to our cause), and the fantastic
generosity of Eddie Izzard, for both his contribution and personal guarantee
to ensure we reached our target figure, we wish to thank you all for a most
successful campaign, especially at a time of instability and impending hardship.

Eddie Izzard slams false newspaper
D-Day veterans claim
Eddie Izzard last night hit out at a newspaper's bogus campaign, which he says
is meant to scare war veterans.
A right-wing paper claimed Labour were not putting up the money for D-Day heroes
to return to Normandy for the 65th anniversary.
But actor and comedian Eddie revealed weeks ago that he personally guaranteed
the cash for Second World War veterans to make the trip.
He fumed: "It is outrageous for them, knowing that funds had been set aside
by Labour supporters to pay for these veterans, to then launch their own campaign
blaming Labour for not paying.
"It's scaremongering. It is making people believe money isn't there when it
was. These men deserve better."
A Government source also described the paper's claims that Gordon Brown would
snub the summer commemorations, attended by President Obama, as "unthinkable".

Eddie Izzard Headed to Cort Theater
in 'Accidental Death of an Anarchist'?
The New York Post's Michael Riedel reports this morning that British producer
John Gore has been seen scouting out Broadway's Cort Theatre for a possible production
of Dario Fo's 'Accidental Death of an Anarchist' which would star Eddie Izzard.
The producer is also currently hunting for a director and a writer to do a fresh
adaption of the play.

Eddie Izzard on politics
Deborah Linton
March 02, 2009
COMEDIAN Eddie Izzard was in Manchester on a mission to make politics more interesting.
The actor and pro-European political activist had a strong message for the city's
voters - urging them to go to the polls in this summer's European parliamentary
elections.
Labour member Izzard, who was meeting Manchester University students, said he
wanted to get more young people into politics.
He said: "If young people get active and learn about the subject they want to
talk about and get involved in politics and that's fantastic.
"At these elections it's very important because if people don't vote then the
BNP will get in. You have to get people when they're young and the more young
people that get involved the better, just like Barack Obama's campaign. A lot
of youth were involved in that so that was very exciting."
He met culture secretary Andy Burnham and Labour candidate Lucy Powell at the
university before performing a gig to 'to pay for it all', he said.
Earlier this week it was revealed that Izzard donated £5,400 to help Lucy Powell
compete for the Withington seat, held by Liberal Democrat John Leech.
Eddie Izzard hits out at BNP
Stand-up comic Eddie Izzard has been visiting Manchester in an effort to galvanise
voters as fears spread of BNP wins in the forthcoming European parliamentary elections.
Analysts are concerned that low turnouts during local and European elections
allow well-organised far-right groups to win important seats under the radar.
"If young people get active and learn about the subject they want to talk about
and get involved in politics and that's fantastic," Mr Izzard said.
"At these elections it's very important because if people don't vote then the
BNP will get in.
"You have to get people when they're young and the more young people that get
involved the better, just like Barack Obama's campaign. A lot of youth were involved
in that so that was very exciting."
While in Manchester, Mr Izzard met with culture secretary Andy Burnham and
Labour candidate Lucy Powell, who he recently gave £5,400 to help fight the Withington
seat – currently held by Lib Dem John Leech.
He then performed a gig to "pay for it all".
