Sexie Tour Smashes Records
Eddie Izzard's autumn tour is breaking box office records at some of Britain's
biggest venues.
Just two per cent of seats in his Sexie tour have not been sold,
matching similar success in North America.
Although acts including Baddiel and Skinner and Lee Evans have
played occasional arena dates, Izzard is the first stand-up to play a full tour
of them.
His dates include Manchester Arena, Birmingham NIA, Glasgow's
SECC, Cardiff International Arena and Wembley Arena all of which have sold out.
Tour producer Mark Rubinstein told trade newspaper The Stage:
"I don't think there is anybody else that can do that.
"He has not done stand-up for four years so we wondered whether
they were going to come to see him in large venues. Yes, is the answer. He is
a superstar."
The tour kicks off in Eastbourne on November 10, winding up at
Wembley at Christmas. (From Chortle.co.uk)

I found this in the Seattle Times so Seattle fans might want to check this
out (or call the Box Office to confirm): "This is Izzard's first run here since
2000; it's largely sold out, but a small block of tickets will be sold at the
box office before each performance."

is strictly for European release. Sexie is scheduled to be released on November
24th. No word on a North American release yet.
NEW LA DATE ADDED They added an extra
LA date for Monday, September 15 at the Wiltern Theatre. Tickets will go on sale
Sunday, August 10 probably through Ticketmaster.
PALMERSTON SHOW CANCELLED British comedian
Eddie Izzard could be laughing all the way to the bank, but surely none of his
fans are smiling in Palmerston North. His August 11 Manawatu show has been cancelled
so he can do an extra performance in Auckland. The internationally acclaimed artist
who appears on stage in drag is touring a stand-up show, entitled Sexie, next
month. Palmerston North was the only provincial centre he was to perform in. Regent
on Broadway manager Charles Forbes said ticket sales for the Izzard show "weren't
that good". Because of this, the promoters decided to cancel it in favour of an
extra Auckland show. He's disappointed but thinks people here might not be aware
of Izzard's international standing. He believed the "quite high" price of $63
per ticket also probably didn't help with sales. "They needed a full house to
make the show pay," he says. People who bought Izzard tickets from Ticketek for
the Palmerston North show can get refunds from the outlet where they were bought.

WARMUP GIGS Eddie has agreed to perform
for two nights at the Norwich Playhouse, St George's Street, on Wednesday,
July 9 and Thursday, July 10 at 8pm. There are a limited number of tickets available
for the shows at the Norwich Playhouse. They cost £10 per person and can be booked
by ringing 01603 598598.
Eddie is playing a warm up gig on Saturday July 5 at Neuadd
Dwyfor, Pwllheli, North Wales (tel 01758 704088). The hall only holds 350
people - tickets were still available at the end of last week.
Eddie is also playing at the Landmark Theatre July 2nd
in Ilfracombe, Devon, however there are no tickets left. Enquires:

He will perform at the Wawrick Arts Centre, Coventry, on
July 7 and in front of just 300 people at the Colchester Arts Centre on
July 8. But to get the £10 tickets, fans will have to queue up outside the Essex
venue ready for when booking opens at noon on July 5 - and produce two ticket
stubs for other shows at the venue.
(July 1, 2003) A signer for the deaf will be at the Wembley gig
on December 22, with Eddie himself having been taught to sign as a child due to
his grandmother being deaf. This will be the first time a signer has been used
for an arena comedy event and a number of tickets will be held back for deaf people.
(June 15, 2003) Snippet from CelebrityAccess.com: "Eddie Izzard
has always treated his fans with the utmost respect and he continues to do so
on the 'Sexie' tour," Ian Noble, tour director for national promoter WestBeth
Entertainment, told CelebrityAccess. (Noble was working on this project before
recently joining Metropolitan Talent and continues with the tour.) "He's opting
to play multiple nights in most cities in smaller venues than his demands warrants
to ensure intimacy, and his tickets are very reasonably priced at $60-$50-$40
in major markets and $50-$40-$30 in all others. But what is most unique about
this tour is that those tickets prices include EVERYTHNG. There are no additional
service charges, handling fees, credit card charges, taxes, facility fees or parking
fees. Fifty bucks means fifty bucks, period. The customer pays the actual stated
ticket price regardless of where they buy their ticket, how they pay or how many
they buy. The public is weary of all these additional charges being added on to
the ticket price, so Eddie did something about it." "The tour went on sale on
May 28 and sold about 25% of the 90,000 tickets available in the first couple
of days. After a week we've sold about 50% of the tickets and sales are not slowing
down. This was all done with one big email blast, by the way." You can read
the rest of the article HERE.
(June 13, 2003) From Izzard.com: "We are thrilled to be
able to inform you that we are holding a special allocation of tickets in all
the UK venues for REGISTERED
USERS only. These tickets (the best seats in the house naturally) will
be held for ONE WEEK ONLY before being released for sale to the general public.
Eddie's UK tour dates will be announced on Tuesday 17th June 2003 and tickets
will be on sale from 10am. We will send you details on how to book these tickets
first thing on Tuesday morning. There are no ticket limitations per person so
this is obviously on a first come, first serve basis. p.s. buy a copy of the Sunday
Times this week.
(June 13, 2003) David Korins, the scenic designer for all of
Southern Rep's shows this season -- including "Bat Boy," which plays its final
performances this weekend -- has been tapped to design comic actor Eddie Izzard's
new one-man show, "Sexie," which will have a national and Australian tour. Korins
got the gig after designing an Izzard photo shoot.
One of off-Broadway's most prolific designers, Korins' work this
year has included shows at Fordham and Yale universities, two plays by up-and-coming
playwright Adam Rapp, "Faster" at the Rattlestick Theatre, for which his work
was singled out in reviews, and the acclaimed "Stone Cold Serious" recently at
the Chashama Theater, which Korins also produced as co-artistic director of Edge
Theatre.
(May 30, 2003) CityTix Problems
Apparently there were lots of problems with the NY sales of Sexie
tix through CityTix. Fortunately, the people at CityTix were very helpful in fixing
any problems with their website so if you end up with multiple tickets you didn't
buy, make sure to CONTACT
them ASAP. (thanks Steve)
(May 28, 2003) According to the City Center, HBO will be taping
Sexie at one of the NY shows for later broadcast (thanks Heather)
(May 27, 2003) Full North American, Australian and NZ dates are
announced. According to Ananova.com, the Sexie tour will include dates in Australia
and the US followed by a UK tour which will wrap up with four shows at London's
Wembley Arena.
(May 13, 2003) Izzard.com has updated their site and you can
be the first to receive tour dates by registering HERE.
Dates for each country will be announced separately. Australian and New Zealand
dates will be announced first, followed by the US and then UK dates.

(March 28, 2003) From Playbill.com
Eddie Izzard, who currently stars in the Broadway revival of A Day in the Death
of Joe Egg, is set to launch a new international tour from Australia in July.
The show, titled Sexie, will play in America Aug. 29-Nov. 8 before going on to
the UK. Beginning in Vancouver Aug. 29 after a stint in Australia, the new show
will play venues in Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Denver, Minneapolis,
Chicago, New York, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Detroit, Baltimore, Boston, Washington
D.C. and Toronto before finishing up in Philadelphia. "We're planning on a southern
swing in January, but that's not definite yet," said WestBeth Entertainment president
Arnold Engelman, adding Sexie "will play mostly larger venues — 1500-seat venues
— so that everybody can get to see him. In almost every city, there will be two
performances and most of the major markets will probably have four or five or
six performances."
(January 11, 2003) From DVDTalk.com Interview
"Yes, if anyone wants to know the plans for the upcoming tour for next year,
I'm touring from July through December around the world. If they go on EddieIzzard.com
they can get on the mailing list and we will mail them exactly when stuff is nailed
down. North America and Canada- we'll probably be there for September, October
and November; Britain will be in December and Australia will be July going into
August. "
(December 3, 2002) "As most of you are aware, Eddie will
be starting a World Tour next year, which will include dates in the USA, Canada,
Australia and the UK. Warm-up dates are planned for July 2003."
(November 28, 2002) From the Sun interview: "When Joe Egg's run
finishes I am going to go on tour again around the world. There is going be a
warm up tour in about July in Britain where I will play very small venues and
try out new material."
(June 5, 2002) "Eddie’s planned touring schedule will include
the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, the USA, Canada, Scandinavia, France,
Germany and Iceland, from 2003 onwards."
